As an employee, you’re basically told, “here’s how much money you can have” and you’re left to see whether it will go far enough to buy and do everything you want. As a freelancer – you can work backwards! Plan out the dream holiday, house extension and whatever else – then work out what you need to make. In today’s episode, we’re diving into how you can actually make the amount you need to, so that you can prioritise your life and everything in it, over your work. Let’s shake off those employee mindsets!

In this episode, we’re chatting about:

  • Our approach to spending money and why a life-first method suits freelancers so much more
  • Getting started with planning out your goals and plans for next year
  • Working out what investments you might need to make in your business to make it work better for you
  • Figuring out how you can make more money without just working more

Do you remember why you started your business? No? Here’s the episode for you! Your “why” should shape every decision you make in your business (including turning down that client who wants a million calls a month), because it’s just that – YOUR business. You’re no one’s employee and you can do whatever you like. But if you’ve lost sight of why you started, and have ended up running a business you’re falling out of love with, maybe it’s time you sat down and got yourself realigned (and not in a “woo” way. Just a normal way).

In this episode, we’re chatting about:

  • What each of our “whys” are and how they’ve slightly changed over the years as we’ve changed
  • Benefits of freelancing vs being an employee (and a reminder that you aren’t an employee of your clients as a freelancer!)
  • Getting your business aligned with what you actually want and your interests
  • How you can share parts of your “why” with your audience to create connections

In this episode, we’re chatting about:

  • Why we wanted to find a way to bring you with us on the journey of revamping the Social Media Managers’ Toolkit
  • Everything we considered using instead and why we settled on a Google Doc
  • Ways that you could implement real-time Google Docs into your business
  • How we’ve structured the Google Doc to make it fun, interactive and get us waitlist sign ups too!

Social media – sometimes it just feels like the land of the icks. From shady MRR to banner posts that just don’t bloody make sense, we’re honestly sick of it all and used this episode as a good excuse for a rant. There’s so much we want to leave behind us in 2024, but also a few things that we’ve really enjoyed this year that we hope to see more of in 2025, so don’t worry, it’s not all doom and gloom. You’ll want to pop the kettle on and buckle in for this one!

In this episode, we’re chatting about:

  • Our top icks we’ve seen on social media in 2024 that we definitely don’t want to see in 2025
  • Going in on faceless marketers and why we hope the whole MRR thing dies a death
  • Getting on our high horses about banner posts
  • Speaking of horses – why we personally want to see more horses and alligators in 2025 🐴🐊 and how you can apply that to your content (no, we haven’t gone mad, promise)
  • …and so much more – there’s been a lot of icks this year!

You’ve decided it’s time to put your prices up – yay! But when’s the best time to do it? You’re in luck – we think there’s a number of different times that work well for a price increase, so there’s probably one coming up soon. In this episode, we’re sharing our favourite times to talk prices with clients and reassuring you that it’s absolutely fine to put your prices up, even if everything else is getting more expensive too. Especially if everything else is more expensive, in fact! So, you know the drill – notebook out, headphones in, it’s time to start planning your price increase!

In this episode, we’re chatting about:

  • Identifying key moments in a calendar year when you might like to raise your prices
  • The best time to start thinking about a new year’s price rise
  • Examples of situations where a client’s deliverables have changed and why you should adjust your pricing
  • How you could include a mandatory price review clause into your contract

Getting on a call with a potential client and discovering they only have £50 to spend on you is bad – dropping your rates and accepting that price is so, so much worse. But how can you avoid doing this when it feels like no one coming your way can afford you? We’re diving into all things pre-qualifying and perfecting your show-up in today’s episode!

In this episode, we’re chatting about:

  • Finding out your base rates so you’re never losing money

We’ve seen (and made, oops!) lots of money mistakes over the years we’ve been in business. Whether you’ve realised you haven’t got enough money for that conference ticket, are feeling overworked and underpaid, or don’t know whether you can raise your prices, having any sort of money problems isn’t a good feeling. We want you to feel empowered to change your ways to be able to grow your business and treat yourself to that new iPhone! (If you want to, of course. Other smart phones are available!)

In this episode, we’re chatting about:

  • The obvious money mistake and why we’re skipping straight over it!
  • Why preparation and planning should become your best friends
  • Keeping a float in your bank account – and which bank account you need
  • All things pricing, including handling price increases and what do to if a client asks you to do extra work

Passive income – the idea that you can earn money doing nothing. Does it even exist? We think not. But, there is an alternative that could be exactly what you’re looking for! This idea builds off of our Offer Triangle Framework (we have an episode just on this – link in the show notes!) and could be a nice complement to your existing client work. It won’t be easy, quick or truly passive, but it’s as close as you’re going to get!

In this episode, we’re chatting about:

  • The definition of passive income
  • What we really think of passive income and why it shouldn’t be the goal in business
  • Three alternative things you can test out in your business
  • How to combine all three to get you as close to passive as possible!

  • How to get your hands on an extra special bonus that’s only included up until 10pm BST, 11th October 2024!
