Over the last four episodes, I've shared four important pieces of information that I wish I'd known before having kids - topics that are often overlooked during pregnancy and postpartum.
We've explored the fascinating changes happening in our gut microbiome and the impact it has on our overall well-being. We've dived deep into the amazing transformations occurring in our brains as we navigate motherhood. We've shed light on the concept of postpartum depletion and why it's essential for us to understand and address it. And we've opened up the conversation about postpartum depression, breaking the stigma and providing support for all mothers.
These conversations have been eye-opening, and it's clear that there's a need for more awareness and understanding around these topics. That's why in today's episode I'm introducing the Renegade Motherhood framework, a powerful tool to guide us on our journey.
I firmly believe that when we, as moms, are fueled up and fired up, we have the power to make a significant impact in the world. So join me on this exciting journey as we embrace the Renegade Motherhood framework and create a community where no mother feels alone. Let's support each other, challenge the norms, and redefine what it means to be a mother in today's world.

Hey there! I'm Jen Morris, your host on the Renegade Motherhood podcast. My mission is to empower moms to rethink postpartum and prioritize their mental and physical wellness. I truly believe that when moms are fueled up and feel better, they have the power to change the world.
Summary:
In this episode, we're diving deep into the concept of postpartum depletion and how it impacts us moms on a physical, emotional, and mental level. And here's the kicker – if left unaddressed, it can persist for years! We'll explore symptoms like extreme fatigue, mental fog, physical weakness, aches and pains, irritability, and decreased libido.
Postpartum depletion can affect our ability to bond with our newborns and put a strain on our intimate relationships. We'll look into the importance of sleep, diet, gut health, and nutrient deficiencies – all contributing factors that need our attention.

Join me in this eye-opening episode as we delve into the often misunderstood topic of postpartum depression. In our conversation, we explore the research from Australia that challenges the notion that postpartum depression only occurs within the first six months after childbirth. In fact, studies show that the peak incidence of postnatal depression actually happens four years after giving birth.
Together, we uncover the truth that postpartum depression can manifest differently for each individual and is not always solely chemical but can also be situational. I encourage all women to seek help and support, regardless of whether they fit the clinical definition of postpartum depression. It's time we break the stigma surrounding maternal mental health and provide the understanding and support that every mother deserves.
Join me on this empowering journey as we shed light on the importance of recognizing and addressing postpartum depression beyond the traditional timeframe. Let's come together to prioritize the well-being of mothers and create a world where no mother feels alone in her journey.

In this episode, I'll be discussing the importance of gut health and its impact on postpartum well-being. I want to share my personal experience with you, as I too struggled with rage, brain fog, and hormonal imbalances after giving birth. It was a challenging time, but through my journey, I discovered the significant role of the gut microbiome in influencing various aspects of our health, from hormones and mood to metabolism.
During pregnancy, there are changes that occur in the gut microbiome, and if you already have gut health issues, they can worsen during this time. That's why it's crucial to support a healthy gut both during pregnancy and in the postpartum phase. But it's not just about physical health - there's a strong gut-brain connection, and changes in the gut microbiome can contribute to postpartum depression.
I want to emphasize that improving your gut health doesn't have to be overwhelming. Small changes can lead to significant improvements in your overall well-being.

Join me on this episode of the Renegade Motherhood podcast as we take a quick look at something that not enough people are talking about...how your brain can change during pregnancy and postpartum.'ll be sharing the scientific evidence that sheds light on the changes that occur in our brains during this transformative period.
Did you know that there is a reduction in gray matter and alterations in certain brain areas during pregnancy? These changes can have an impact on our decision-making abilities, emotions, and even the development of a "baby radar" that helps us anticipate our child's needs. It's truly incredible how our brains adapt to motherhood!
But these changes don't come without their challenges. Hyper vigilance and constant worry about our baby's well-being can result from these brain changes, leading to anxiety and self-doubt. It's important for us to be aware of these changes and educate ourselves, so we can have more compassion for ourselves and seek the support we need.
And here's a little something you may not realize - the gut and brain are interconnected, and changes in both can impact our overall well-being during pregnancy and postpartum. So, it's crucial to prioritize our gut health and make conscious choices to support a healthy gut.

Listen up!
The idea that a new mom should bounce back from pregnancy and childbirth after a few weeks or months is bullshit.
Society's definition of postpartum is flawed and not serving anyone. This episode highlights the many reasons women are not just 'bouncing back' including:
So many women are often left feeling overwhelmed, fatigued, and struggling with various physical and mental health issues, but are told that it's just part of being a mom.
I believe that this mindset is harmful and want to challenge the narrative around postpartum.
