Biography
Ericka Herd is an individual of many talents. After securing a BA in Journalism from Eastern Kentucky University and competing as a collegiate athlete in track and field, she decided to begin a career in education. In 2006, she also obtained a MBA from the University of Phoenix and is now on track to graduate with a doctorate degree in education from the University of Phoenix as well. She will soon be Dr. Herd.
Herd has been teaching for almost 23 years. She currently teaches 6th grade English at Roy Martin Middle School in Las Vegas, Nevada.
She recently took a leap of faith and relocated to Las Vegas from Louisville, Kentucky. The move has brought about a new focus for her and that has been on her 6-year-old daughter Izabela. After coaching high school track and field for 22 years and high school football for two years, Herd decided to trade in her whistle for more time to devote to Izabela.
Herd has earned a reputation as a fitness model as she often competes as a National Physique Competitor (NPC) in the figure division. She has been competing for more than a decade now. She has earned many titles in the fitness arena and is set to be back on stage the later part of 2022. As a fitness enthusiast, she strives to lead an exemplary life of health and fitness. The gym is like her sanctuary.
One of her favorite passions is working with young people and helping them discover who they are. Recognizing that success only follows work ethic and consistently, she constantly exemplifies this message to her students and athletes. Whether teaching in the classroom, preparing for another fitness competition or spending time with Izabela, Herd works hard to translate the importance of chasing your dreams.
When Herd settles down after work, she looks forward to hearing about her daughter’s day.
She gives all her credit and accomplishments to her faith in the Lord. “I can’t do NOTHING without Him,” Herd said.
“Every day is a new challenge that I welcome. It’s those tough times in life that we find out what we are truly made of. Some hurt more than others, but in the end, we are always stronger if we simply endure,” – Ericka Herd
