Intro :00
About today’s episode! :51
Inspired by past guest and parapsychologist, Dr. Callum Cooper, Patrick recently read two books on parapsychology, and wanted to share his thoughts. The two books are Parapsychology: The Controversial Science (1991) by Richard S. Broughton, Ph. D. and Extra-Sensory Perception After Sixty Years: A Critical Appraisal of the Research in Extra-Sensory Perception (1940) by J.G. Pratt, J.B. Rhine, Burke M. Smith, and Charles E. Stuart. Next up is the even earlier groundbreaking book, Extra-Sensory Perception (1934) by J.B. Rhine. 1:43
Patrick recently had a mediumship reading from Jen Piwowarski, a listener who is also a budding new medium. This reading inspired some interesting stories that Patrick wanted to share with you. 6:44
The cake stand and a shattered glass: The poltergeist activity that Patrick’s Great Aunt remembers from a time when he was still in the womb. 7:37
A spooky and sad story from Patrick’s Great Grandma’s old farmhouse. True? Embellished? The tale has passed through the family over the years. 9:02
Pour the tea for Patrick’s conversation with longtime listener, librarian, and friend of the podcast, Susan Davy! 12:23
Susan was one of the very first listeners to call in and use the show’s hotline! Did you know the show has a hotline? It’s 1-775-583-5563. 13:23
Susan recently introduced Patrick to Danny Robins and the Uncanny. It’s a book (Into the Uncanny: A Real-Life Investigation Into the Paranormal), a podcast (Uncanny), and as of this week, if you live in the UK, a new television show (Uncanny). 15:32
Susan Davy is a librarian by trade, and here’s her pitch as to why Danny’s work and the Uncanny is something you need to check out! 17:06
The audience is allowed to contribute to the cases in the Uncanny. Plus Room 611 and #BloodyHellKen. 21:00
For American’s in particular, you’ll be excited to learn that these stories aren’t from the same old haunted locations. They’re all new to us! 23:43
Danny Robins, a writer by trade, isn’t afraid to be funny, and he podcasts from a shed. 25:55
There are two years of episodes to binge if you’re just getting started! 28:26
In most episodes, Danny features at least two experts to discuss the week’s story. One is usually more on the skeptic side (often Ciarán O’Keeffe), and the other tends to be more open to believing. Evelyn Hollow is one of the experts often featured, and Patrick has reached out to her for an interview. By the way, he’s reached out to Danny Robins’ team as well. He’s gotten a response and hopes to be able to schedule an interview soon! 28:50
The Uncanny TV series just dropped on BBC Two in the UK! 31:30
UncannyCon! 33:01
Next up! Susan shares several of her own paranormal experiences, beginning with a frightening McDonalds trip that has caused her to avoid a particular bend in the road ever since! She later did research and found that reports of seeing that same apparition go back to at least 1878! 34:25
Susan describes the apparition, which reminds Patrick of an incredibly real dream from several years ago, in which he was gifted the experience of seeing a glowing apparition. 39:02
“Your Highness”, a funny paranormal experience. 45:30
What’s your favorite dessert? (Shoutout to Anne and Renata!) 47:40
When you’re having a GREAT hair day! “I just heard, in my right ear, a mixture of what I will say is ‘ha ha ha’ and a belch.” 51:33
A bowing, servant ghost. 54:15
Go to the library! Read a book such as This House is Haunted: The True Story of the Enfield Poltergeist by Guy Lyon Playfair, Is There An Afterlife?: A Comprehensive Overview of the Evidence by David Fontana, or The Scole Experiment: Scientific Evidence for Life After Death by Grant and Jane Solomon. 56:12

The New York Times calls Dr. Raymond Moody the “father of the near-death experience”, or NDE. He has been studying the phenomenon for nearly five decades. Paul Perry is a bestselling author and documentary filmmaker, whose best-known film is Jesus: the Lost Years. Together, Raymond and Paul have co-authored their sixth book together, Proof of Life after Life: 7 Reasons to Believe There Is an Afterlife, which finally has the answer to humanity’s most pressing question: What happens when we die? “It’s turtles all the way down.” Will NDEs become more intense as people become aware and open their minds to the possibility of them? “We can reformat our rational mind to overcome the problems that keep people from expressing the experience adequately when they recover.” 45:32
Dr. Moody’s research into the psychomanteum. 49:35
“It’s not just good for calling up grandma.” A practical value in the psychomanteum is the high and the flow of creativity. 56:29

Astrologer Dena DeCastro returns to tell us how we can take advantage of two upcoming October eclipses to benefit our lives. In this interview, we learn that eclipses are not rare. We also learn why an eclipse is such a great device to use in Hollywood. According to Dena, “There is a spooky, supernatural quality to the whole idea of an eclipse. Something is literally being interrupted [in] the natural order, and it’s a moment of pause. And you can look at that and be kind of spooked out, or you can look at it and say, ‘Wow! Isn’t that the coolest thing ever, and I’m going to ride with that energy and do something productive with it.’” Visit BigSeance.com/232 for more info.

Intro :00
Dena DeCastro is an astrologer and author in Portland, Oregon. She has been a counseling astrologer for over twenty years and has been teaching astrology since the mid 2000s. She received her astrological training through Steven Forrest’s Apprenticeship Program, and holds two Master’s Degrees. Her articles have been featured in The Mountain Astrologer magazine, and she has appeared on many podcasts and local radio shows over the years. She also hosted The Sirius Astrology Podcast (2007-2014), one of the first astrology podcasts. In 2021, Dena and fellow astrologer Katie Sloan created the Let’s Get Real Astrology podcast, which they co-host. She currently provides individual readings, as well as mentorship for those who want to learn astrology. Her new book, Foundations of Astrology: A Workbook for Beginners is available on Amazon and via her website denadecastro.com. :51
The last time Dena was on the show, Patrick pushed her into appearing LIVE for the first time. Has she been LIVE since? 2:42
Looking back on Dena’s forecast for 2022, and a reminder that she does not predict the future in her astrology work! 5:05
A discussion on the unusual 1980 Horror/Fantasy Disney film, The Watcher in the Woods, starring Bette Davis, which features some really fascinating and dramatic eclipse themes. 7:20
Let’s talk about eclipses! They occur in pairs, two weeks apart, about every six months. We have two eclipses coming up in October, on the 14th and the 28th! The current series of eclipses is in the Aries/Libra polarity, which began in April. We have a final Taurus/Scorpio polarity eclipse on October 28th. When an eclipse falls in the sign of the north node, it is calling us to aspire to move toward the positive aspects of that sign. This was the case with April’s eclipse in Aries: the calling was to integrate the high side of Aries, because that is also the sign of the transiting north node. In contrast, on the upcoming eclipse of October 14th, the shadow side of Libra is more likely to show up. The invitation is to become aware of our own Libra shadow behaviors, and to release them. 9:17
Solar Eclipse and Lunar Eclipse 10:26
Patrick reflects on seeing and experiencing a solar eclipse in 2017 with an entire student body of a middle school! 11:53
The astrology of an eclipse and the transiting nodes. 13:20
The south node is where the shadow material coming up for the collective resides. 15:25
The upcoming October 14th solar eclipse will bring up an awareness and an opportunity to work through and to set intentions around doing good work with the Libra shadow. 16:06
Two weeks before and two weeks after the eclipse is the most potent window, and Dena likes to call the intensified period between two eclipses, the “Eclipse Portal.” Before October 14th — “What do you want to let go of around old relationship patterns?” “What new things do you want to invite in in your relationship life?” 16:50
The October 28th lunar eclipse. Wrap up things you’ve been working on regarding security, money, safety, and staying grounded. Acknowledge the work and progress you’ve made and release. 20:53
Purging and letting go. Dena uses Patrick, who is an Aries, as an example of how you can apply the astrology of eclipses in your life. “Were there any significant changes in the spring regarding vitality, health, creativity, or sense of self?” 22:40
Dena continues using Patrick as an example, looking at the Libra qualities in him (as that is the opposite of his sun sign). “Looking at the balance of your relationships, how is it supporting the new things that you’ve kicked off and started?” 26:25
Dena has succeeded at a daily meditation practice and is seeing the benefits! 29:24
We have even more eclipses coming up! Consider having a new or full moon ritual, or meeting with an eclipse group. 32:43
“There is a spooky, supernatural quality to the whole idea of an eclipse. Something is literally being interrupted [in] the natural order, and it’s a moment of pause. And you can look at that and be kind of spooked out, or you can look at it and say, ‘Wow! Isn’t that the coolest thing ever?’, and ‘I’m going to ride with that energy and do something productive with it.’” 34:57
The eclipse in the 1985 film, Ladyhawke. 36:54
“Eclipses are not rare. They’re a regular, cyclic phenomenon that we can all use and enjoy in our lives.” 40:01
Dena’s great blog posts, and a recent Let’s Get Real Astrology episode, that you can use as a resource! 42:50
Do you struggle to read or understand your basic natal chart? Dena does readings, has a mentorship program, and you can check out her book, Foundations of Astrology: A Workbook for Beginners. 44:35

Medium, spiritual teacher, and bestselling author Claire Broad, returns to convince you that the romanticized concept of twin flames or twin souls is NOT what you think they are. It’s just one chapter out of her book, Heaven Sent: Soul Lessons from the Afterlife, but it’s such a huge topic, which sometimes seems to be polarizing in the spiritual community, so we devoted an entire episode to it! Intro :00
Claire Broad is a medium, spiritual teacher and bestselling author. She gave her first message from the spirit world to a relative at the age of 4 and began developing her ability as a medium from the age of 21. She is accredited as a registered and approved medium with the Institute of Spiritualist Mediums and has built a strong reputation for being deeply spiritually aware, whilst maintaining a down to earth, honest, compassionate approach to her work. Claire resides in Fleet, Hampshire in England. :48
Claire’s new book is called, Heaven Sent: Soul Lessons from the Afterlife. 1:40
Twin Flames. Did your eyes just roll back in your head? Patrick’s did too! But sit back, because if you thought you knew all about the concept of twin flames, you’re probably wrong! 2:40
Claire was recently featured as a speaker on Howard Hughes’ first cruise! So was Dr. Melvyn Willin, a former guest from episode 145 in 2019. Howard Hughes is an award-winning UK based broadcaster and journalist and he hosts The Unexplained with Howard Hughes. 4:17
Claire says she is no longer the person she was when she spoke to us last in 2019! Her life changed after having a profound and surreal experience where she met energy healer, Gyles Whitnall. They both now recognize each other as their own twin flame. 6:43
Soul mates are not twin flames. 9:45
Meeting Gyles triggered a Kundalini awakening in Claire. 10:58
“So when I talk about twin souls or twin flames, I’m not talking about romance. That’s for romantic soul mates.” 14:25
Other mediums were approaching Claire with a knowing that Claire had met her twin flame. 15:02
“And I, for the first time, experienced my absolute knowing that I am an eternal consciousness, and that Gyles and I had the exact same frequency, same soul energy, and he was my mirror counterpart. He’s so different from me.” 16:15
“I’ve got to let people know that a twin soul is the the way that universe manifests the soul in to physical embodiment.” 17:40
“No one is special here. We are all twinned.” 18:10
Claire says that if you meet your twin flame, it’s going to turn your life upside down, and that most people aren’t successful in holding the relationship together. 19:40
The synchronicities between Claire and Gyles. 20:45
More on the soul connections that Claire wrote about in her book, Heaven Sent. 23:00
Health problems, businesses going under, families and relationships falling apart. These are some of the complications that one could experience when meeting your twin flame. “Anything where there is something that you need to work on and heal, because you recognize, I haven’t yet mastered why I’m here.” 25:36
“If you meet your twin flame, you will start to understand how we are all one.” 28:45
Life partners vs romantic soul mates. 29:03
Twin flames won’t necessarily model a traditional romantic pairing. They are sometimes between a gay man and a straight man, two straight women, and often with large age gaps. “It’s going to trigger both people to really evaluate true, unconditional love and who they really are.” Twin flames are not likely to be in the same family. 31:41
Throughout different lifetimes, you always have the same twin flame. You might not necessarily meet them in this lifetime, and that’s okay. 34:44
As twin flames, Claire and Gyles now work together spiritually as a team. 37:10
“And whatever soul connection you are in, it’s divine. We cannot put these soul connections above each other. They are totally equal because we are all one and the same.” 38:10
White Feather, Claire’s guide, helped and guided her through all of this. 38:36
How often do twin flames meet? When does it happen? 41:36
“[If you haven’t met your twin flame], no one has done anything wrong, because you just may not, in this lifetime, want that experience, or need that experience, or be ready for that experience.” 43:15
Tips and things to look for from the book. 45:58
Patrick jokes and wonders, when you think you’ve met your twin flame, is there the risk of a restraining order? “[In] twin souls, there is no way the other person isn’t experiencing it. You can see it unfolding in the other one. It definitely takes bravery to say, ‘how are you experiencing what’s going on here?’, and not everybody is ready for that conversation.” 48:30
“They’re always unconditionally loving. Your twin soul will never hurt you on purpose. Ever. They can’t. They’re you. But as you separate, it’s because it’s needed as both go on their ways to try and heal. And if you are in separation from your twin soul, it’s really starting to understand [that] this is in my best interest. I need this.” “The reason that twin soul connections are so hard, is they will show you everything that isn’t whole within yourself, just by being themselves, because they’re the complete opposite to you. So where they have strengths, you have weakness, and vice versa. And they’re literally mirroring back at you where the work needs to be, for both of you. So you pull each other up, you see. Or you drag each other up, is probably a better term.” 51:29
Final thoughts and details about the book, Heaven Sent. 53:04
Patrick reflects back on some funny stories Claire has shared with us in her interviews over the years. 55:17
More final thoughts and where to find Claire. 57:41

Who is Nurse Hadley Vlahos? :46
Patrick read Hadley’s book, The In-Between: Unforgettable Encounters During Life’s Final Moments, and cried every five pages! 3:14
Patrick’s experiences with hospice care, and a BIG thank you to Nurse Hadley and those in the field! 4:13
The fear of dying in pain. 6:08
The difference between dying in a hospital and dying under the care of hospice. 7:20
Hadley’s first experiences, what she’s learned, and how she’s grown since! “I was so shocked [when] I got into hospice! It is such a whole person experience. We really are making sure that not only the patient is taken care of, their mind/body/spirit, but their family as well. And I was not taught that in nursing school.” 8:31
“If you have religious trauma, maybe you don’t want to read some of these things. But I’ve been really shocked about the amount of people who say that this helped them with religious trauma. And they loved reading a book that says, ‘yes I was raised in the church, but I have now taken care of people from all backgrounds, all denominations, and I see that it can be beautiful and peaceful no matter what’, and they said that it has helped them.” 10:25
Hallucination vs. truly seeing dead loved ones. 11:58
