From Kenya with Indifference

This is a podcast by a random, simple introvert who is on a journey to revive her love for her country. I try to unpack various aspects of Kenya's economy, politics (not a lot, honestly) and culture on this voyage to rediscover the patriotic love I once had for my motherland. </p>

Available Episodes 10

"Without a clarity of purpose, the adherence of all Kenyans, and the participation of Civil Society Organisations and the Church, the success of the Third Liberation will remain elusive." Dr. Fred Nasubo and Beverlyne Ondieki

The number of things that have been happening feel like a smoke screen. It has been one year since the Kenya Kwanza administration came into power and it has been one thing after the other. What we are experiencing as Kenyans is the manipulation of reality, in real time.

The year 1920 would see Kenya become an official colony of Britain. Land disputes were prevalent, and this resulted in the Mau Mau rebellion that put the country in a state of emergency in the period 1952-1959. The end of the apartheid policy in the year 1944 paved the way for a few of the local African officials to be appointed into the government. However, it was not until the year 1957 that the first elections were held in the country. Jomo Kenyatta was elected on a Kenya National African Union ticket to form the first government. On 1st June 1963, the country attained self-governance following the election of Kenyatta as a prime minister. The country only managed to attain full independence from the British colonists on 12th December 1963. Sixty one years later, the country has grown into an independent nation.

Beautiful history of where we've come from, do we really have anything to show for it?

Would love to hear from you!

You thought I would forget to suggest animated series to watch and binge?! Here you go...

Rick & Morty | AdultSwim | Available on Netflix

It is currently 5 seasons long. It is a brilliantly written series with complex characters whose arcs are uniquely thought out (in my perspective).

Archer | Fox | Available on Netflix

It is currently 12 seasons long. There's a disfunction in the family and team dynamic of the main characters and the comedic timing and writing is brilliant.

Family Guy | Fox | Some Seasons on Netflix     The Simpsons | Fox

Family Guy is currently in its 20th season while The Simpsons is in its 34th. Both are family based and carry the same premise but are from different generations. It is interesting to see the evolution of animation through the different seasons of these shows and the writing dynamics change over the years.

Bojack Horseman | Netflix

This series in particular holds a special place in my heart as it touches on very deep and heavy themes like anxiety, depression, PTSD, generational trauma e.t.c and (in my opinion) tastefully tells the story of how they affect the different characters. Each character feels like an important part of the puzzle that is the story.

Big Mouth | Netflix

Puberty but make it creative and interesting.

PS: This list is subject to change. There are new shows coming out everyday...

I'm back !!!
Thank you to everyone who checked up on me, as I hope you all know, I take hiatuses VERY seriously.

This week, we try to unpack the animosity towards women in Kenya by men on social media with the lovely Joanne Mbataru , the host of the Creative Captive Podcast.

Of course I talk about some books including:
Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain
The Hidden Power of Fucking Up by The Try Guys

Hi guys! The jingle bells are ringing in the distance and I review some books adapted for the big screen and give you an honest review of how well I think the series were captured from the original written work.

Follow Faith Nzama on Instagram: @suckerforcoffe or visit her website: http://www.suckerforcoffe.com
I'll review work from;

Stephen King

  • The Shining
  • Misery

Carol Kepner

  • You

Jay Asher

  • Thirteen Reasons Why

Michelle Obama

  • Becoming (This clearly had an impact in my life)

Thomas Harris

  • Silence of the Lambs ( Actual genesis of the character Hannibal Lectre)

Bonus: Batman: The Animated Series - Brilliant adaptation of the original batman comics

The Tea: When a film/series is based on a book, read the book first

Hi. So I turned 25 a few weeks ago. Do I have a list of 25 things I have learnt? Nope, but I have learnt what not to do.

"Like a lot of girls, I became aware of the liabilities of my body early, long before I began to even look like a woman." Michelle Obama in Becoming

I genuinely don't have a blueprint for being a limitless woman, I just learn from my experiences;

  • Speaking out in the important meetings
  • Setting your boundaries
  • Believe in yourself
  • Love yourself
  • Get that paper

The Tea: You are Loved | You are Worthy | You are Brilliant

Hi guys ! How are your hearts? Have you done your self care routine?

This week I'll be talking about being an introvert in this current world touching on what an introvert is, I don't have an answer for this, I personally prefer animals over people.

What types of introverts are there?  There are various tests out there, take your pick. You really have nothing to lose;

Myer Briggs: https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test
Keirsey: https://profile.keirsey.com/#/b2c/assessment/4814019/questions?locale=en

Also, to understand the importance of introverts in the workplace, please read this book;  Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can't Stop Talking by Susan Cain - https://medium.com/@jeffrisandy/10-lessons-from-quiet-the-power-of-introverts-in-a-world-that-cant-stop-talking-by-susan-cain-15bdf86e5025

The Tea: Don't ask your introvert friend to be more social. Don't ask your introvert partner to be more social. We are not broken. We are quite fine actually.

Hi !!! How is your heart? How are you all doing?

This week I talk about introspective relationships and try to break them down. I also touch on why I think they are key to one's development;

  • Learn more about yourself
  • Know your flaws and shortcomings
  • Unlearn your toxic traits
  • You won't be someone's half, you'll be a whole person.

Of course I tell a snippet of a major break up I've had and how I processed it through the various stages of grief.

The Tea: Stop asking your single friend when he or she will date. Quite honestly, we don't want to as we are working on ourselves and the dating scene is  literal TRASH. Kindly, stop.

Hi again! What do you think the rules are on platonic relationships?
This week I talk about what a platonic relationship is, give examples like Gayle and Oprah, Meredith and Cristina (yes, that's how you spell it), Adam Sandler and his crew, Ricky Gervais and his friends ( Extras, After Life, Derek, The Office)
Why are platonic friendships important?

  • They hold you down
  • They support you
  • They back you up

Foundation strong platonic relationships

  • Communication
  • Accountability
  • Trust
  • Authenticity
  • Reciprocity

The tea: Understand the Abraham Maslow hierarchy of needs and stop yourself before you find yourself in a pathological cycle of wants and needs leading to you losing your personality due to to the incessant need to fit in.
